Report: Backstage Update On Edge

Although WWE released photos of Edge undergoing surgery on Tuesday morning in Birmingham, AL with Dr. James Andrews, the company has yet to issue anything new regarding his recovery and how long he is expected out of the ring.

According to sources, people close to Adam “Edge” Copeland say his Achilles tendon surgery went well yesterday and he will be forced to stay off his foot for around 10 to 14 days. After that he will be allowed to start walking while wearing a rehabilitation boot and start rehab around that time.

The initial thought was that WWE wouldn’t acknowledge the injury until at least this coming weekend since Edge appears on Friday Night Smackdown this week and gets involved in the ring, but they decided against that. The next big question is where creative goes from here with Edge as a WWE Unified Tag Team Champion along with Chris Jericho and the two being scheduled for a title defense at Night of Champions between Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase. WWE had long-term plans for Edge and Jericho as a tag team as they had worked on mixing both men’s entrance music and created a dual video for the team. The company was also working to come up with a team name with some ideas being Team Ego and Team Rated Y2J. There was also talk after that ended that early next year we’d see an Edge face turn leading into next years WrestleMania.

The immediate reaction to Edge’s injury within the company was trying to figure out a way to get the belts on Rhodes and DiBiase. Of course, they shot TV before the injury and had Ted DiBiase Sr. announce as the special guest host of Raw that no title matches would be taking place until the Night of Champions PPV on July 26. So it puts them in an interesting situation with TV the next two weeks heading into the PPV. It should be noted that Ted Dibiase Jr. is currently suffering from a shoulder injury at the moment, but the belief is that it isn’t too severe and he was kept out of the ring at a few shows overseas in Australia as a result. The plan at one point within WWE was to have Edge come to TV and hand his belt over to Dolph Ziggler to give Ziggler a rub and a big push teaming with Jericho. However, plans always change in WWE and there have been multiple ideas between now and the next set of TV tapings this Monday and Tuesday so the plan with Ziggler could be off the table. There was also said to be talk of keeping The Colons (Carlito and Primo) together and editing off Carlito’s attack on Primo from Raw this past Monday, but those plans changed since they ended up airing it as is.

Backstage News: Edge Injured In Hardy Fight?

I am attending a WWE house show here in San Diego, CA. and I just witnessed Edge get injured during his match with Jeff Hardy.

He was running towards Jeff and appeared to have either twisted or even broken his ankle. His foot was in a very awkward position. The match was immediatley stopped.

EMTs came running to attend him and he was helped out of the ring. He even took the time to take the mic and say “sorry” to the fans.

Backstage Vickie Guerrero Pay News

Source: The Wrestling Observer Newsletter

The word going around the locker room is that Vickie Guerrero was only being paid $500 per appearance by WWE. On top of that, she had to cover her own hotel and road expenses.

Typically, talent on the main roster net a $75,000 downside guarantee at the very least, so her salary was drastically below even the lowest paid main roster performers in the company.

Some wrestlers are understandably fired up over this rumor, as the feeling is that the company could have done more to take care of a person who was such an integral part of WWE.

Although, it’s worth noting that WWE paid for Eddie Guerrero’s funeral and likely did more to help out Vickie financially than the locker room is aware of.

Backstage Batista Update | Two Wrestlers Dead

Batista was telling people at Raw this week that his recovery is on schedule, and that he will be able to start working out in 4-6 weeks. The hope is that he can return by Survivor Series, which will be in his hometown of Washington DC. Batista was upset about missing the upcoming July event in the Philippines since he’s part Filipino; he is treated like a hero there.

Gabe Sapolsky has a new blog entry up where he talks about a decision he regrets making, ROH’s first UK tour, and more. Check it out at http://www.myspace.com/rohgabe

HC Loc is said to be OK following the tough chairshot he took at the Legends of the Arena event on Saturday.

On Monday morning Mexico City police officers found Lucha Mini stars, La Parkita and Espectrito II (both of them were the originals), dead in their hotel rooms. Parkita (real Name Alberto Perez Jimenez) and Espectrito II (real name Alejandro Perez Jimenez) were brothers (also both were brothers of Espectrito I) and were only 35 years old. The police have released that Parkita & Espectriro checked into their hotels after a show on Sunday night and were approached by two prostitutes. The two women spiked the lucha stars drinks and after they passed out stole all of their possessions. The two overdosed on the drugs the prostitutes spiked their drinks with.

Police say that this M.O. matches that of a prostitute ring called “The Filtracion” (The Leak) who proposition men and then spike their drinks and then rob the men, but the spiked drinks usually don’t kill (probably because of their size, it killed them). The police have retrieved finger prints from the scene and are confident they will find the two responsible which I truly hope they do. La Parkita and Espectrito II were both 2 of the pioneers of the Lucha Mini resurgence in the 90’s as stars in both AAA and CMLL. Espectrito II has wrestled under many names and masks in his carer including Mini Mankind, Tarantula (while in the WWE shortly), and most recently as Guerrerito del Futuro. He lost his Espectrito mask to Octagoncito in 1997. La Parkita is considered by many to be one of of the best in-ring Minis in all of Lucha Libre and has been so for many years. Parkita has wrestled all over the world including Japan and the United States (most recently in CHIKARA Pro). Both had been wrestling on the INDY scene (mostly in Mexico City) recently wrestling for such groups as Los Bizarros, IWRG, Perros del Mal, and more. They will be missed. R.I.P. Backstage Update On Rey Mysterio And WWE

Any issues between WWE and Rey Mysterio in the last few weeks appeared to have calmed down. Although the issues may not be completely settled, he is not leaving and was reportedly on the verge of doing so at one point. This was described as a pretty big deal a week ago within WWE as there was a fear he would quit.

Although Mysterio is under a long-term contract with WWE he did bring up to them the idea that he thinks he could make more money in Mexico. Whether or not that is credible is not known as Mysterio has been making around $1.5 million with WWE and the belief is that he couldn’t make that much in Mexico. AAA had reportedly offered him a $1 million signing bonus and in excess of $1 million per year when his previous deal with WWE was expiring. He is believed to be among some on the WWE roster that are probably seeing a decrease in 15% in pay because of revenue streams being down.

Whatever issues he might have had with WWE appear to not be an issue at the moment and is said to be happy with his current program with Chris Jericho.

Donald Trump Story Backstage News

WWE kept a lot of employees in the dark about the Donald Trump angle on RAW, and the wrestlers had no idea until at least 7:00 that night. Vince told everyone he was working on a major deal, when in actuality he was working on the pre-tape of Donald Trump speaking so he could time his reactions to make it look like a live feed.

The angle with Trump, who is a long-time friend of Vince, was put together as a cross-promotion and will likely result in lots of plugs for The Apprentice on NBC. Sources within the company don’t expect the storyline to go on for too long.

Update On Roxxi & Rhaka Khan Backstage!

Roxxi was recently released from TNA, and there is a lot of heat on Rhaka Khan over the firing as well as for her behavior. ProWrestling.net reports that Roxxi’s termination can be traced back to a backstage incident that took place between the two. Khan was upset that she wasn’t given enough to do in a battle royal match. When Savio Vega was going over the match with the Knockouts, he asked her repeatedly to turn down the music she was playing. She eventually complied, but when asked to join the rest of the group, she snapped at him and said she is tall enough to see him over everyone.

During the actual battle royal match, Rhaka apparently caught Roxxi with a flurry of stiff shots, and Roxxi returned them and Rhaka dropped to her knees and screamed, which was edited off TV. Khan headed backstage and complained loudly about the stiff shots, and said that the other Knockouts don’t like her but she could “get real” with them.

Roxxi approached Khan to smooth things over, but Khan wasn’t interested. Khan was then overheard complaining to ex-boyfriend Kurt Angle that other knockouts were stealing her clothes and either destroyed or stole her laptop computer. Regarding the allegations of stolen clothes, one source cracked, “None of this has ever happened because who in the f— would want them?” Angle has been seen blowing off her rants, but management still feels they are tight.

Khan and Roxxi eventually made peace, but neither were brought back to television. Khan hasn’t appeared on TV since the incidents, but remains on the TNA website and has been flying herself to some television tapings in recent weeks.

The general feeling from sources who have spoken up is that Roxxi got a raw deal and Khan is getting away with her behavior due to her ties with Kurt Angle, although the two are no longer dating. Another incident was during a recent gauntlet match, where Khan was so upset about newcomer Madison Rayne being late for a spot that she kicked her in the head hard enough to cause temporary hearing loss.

Bob ‘Hardcore’ Holly Backstage News!

RF Video recently conducted a shoot interview with former WWE wrestler Hardcore Holly and he holds nothing back while discussing his 15-year tenure in the company.

Perhaps the most notable portion of the interview concerns Holly’s explanation for being let from World Wrestling Entertainment back in January. He has some choice words for a certain wrestler in the company to say the least — that person being Raw Superstar Mr. Kennedy. Holly believes Kennedy is responsible for his ultimate release from the company and is angry with him to this day, so much so that he issues a personal threat to him during the interview.

Courtesy of RFVideo.com, here is a synopsis of what you can expect to hear from Holly concerning his issue with Kennedy in the shoot interview:

“I got a call from Bob today when he was boarding his plane and he told me what he wanted to talk about on the shoot. He asked me point blank can he say what ever he wants and I told him that this is his day. This would be his platform to do what ever he wanted. He went off on a 5 minute promo on how he wants to beat the hell out of Ken Kennedy on the phone and told me about his major heat with him. This is not a work at all and on the interview, Bob goes into what happened to get these two once best friends into a bitter battle. You will hear right from the mouth of Bob, how Kennedy told Bob to go into his bag and get something out of it for himself. I do not want to get to graphic here because it makes the shoot. You have to watch this as soon as you can, as Bob sends a private message to Ken on this tape. I would not want to be in the shoes of Mr. Kennedy!!!”

Here is another synopsis on the subject, noting Holly making a threat “that is sure to get the WWE’s attention”:

“The highlight of this interview is Bob talking about his WWE release. How did someone once so close to the boss get released? Bob sends a clear message to a current WWE superstar and calls him out by name. What is this wrestler’s culpability in Bob’s firing? Bob will tell you a story that will shock even his biggest detractors. No names are protected and nobody is innocent as Bob makes a threat that is sure to get the WWE’s attention. What happened between Bob and his former friend? You will hear about it all from the horse’s mouth in this classic RF Video Shoot Interview.”

Reportedly, Holly was caught stealing pain pills from another wrestler’s bag this past summer, hence his sudden disappearance from television. He was immediately taken off the road, sent to a rehabilitation facility, and ultimately released.

» As reported over the weekend, there are four WWE developmental wrestlers in Florida Championship Wrestling that have a very good chance of being called up to the main roster in the near future. They are DH Smith, Eric Escobar (a.k.a. Eric Perez), Sheamus O’Shaunessy, and Drew McIntyre. In an update on the story, one of the four wrestlers previously named is booked to wrestle on a slate of WWE live events throughout the month May. Sheamus O’Shaunessy has been under contract to World Wrestling Entertainment for two years, but still has yet perform in front of a live WWE crowd. However, he will finally be getting his chance as company officials have booked him to appear on their shows next month.
